Why Do Grownups Always Think They Are Right?

Dear WitterPitted,
Why do grownups always think they are right?
-Grandpa Kevin

Dear Grandpa Kevin,
Grownups think that they're always right, it's because their children are always right. I said, grownups think they are always right because their children are always right.  It works because, sometimes, little kids know that their moms should really make that kind of food that the little kids want her to make.  And grownups think that they're right because they, um, help people.  That's all.

Dear Grandpa Kevin,
They think they are always right because. . . they are just right.  They are always right because they know more than us. . . duh!

-Audrey (7)

Dear Grandpa Kevin,
I don't think grownups are always right.  Grownups think they are right because they already went through school and their children didn't, so they think that since their children haven't gone through all of school they know more than their children.

-Clara (8)

Dear Grandpa Kevin,
I think that grownups think that they are always right because they believe that they are more experienced than kids and that they are smarter than us.  They may be more experienced, but they are not smarter than children. And also, they think that they know more about the outside world and the latest knowledge.  But, this is a bad reason because children actually know more about the latest technology and knowledge because they are the ones going to school right then and learning them.   I believe this is why grownups always think that they are right.

Dear Grandpa Kevin,
Grownups think they are always right because they believe that if children were right, they might be able to take over the world and be the dominating age group, and that really throws off grownups' minds, and it makes them really really nervous, so they always have to be right. So, if one of their children is ever actually right, they will just end the conversation there because they are the Senior and can do that. THAT'S TOTALLY CORRECT!

Dear Grandpa Kevin,
I think that when grownups brains fully activate, they develop some sort of complex where the brain no longer registers the term, "wrong." This new scientific breakthrough has been labeled, "Judsonitis." I will keep you posted on further developments.

-Reuben (15)

Dear Grandpa Kevin A.K.A. Dad,
Grownups always think they are right because the grownups before them always told them they were right, because, they were grownups. This is closely associated with the Circle of Life. It's okay if you start singing Lion King right now.  In addition to being trained by their own parents, the grownups of my generation think they are right all the time because they have these small slim magical boxes glued to their hands or shoved in their pockets at every moment, maybe even while they sleep. They use these devices, called cell phones, to ask a mystical disembodied voice named Siri anything and everything they want to know. So, if the grownups aren't right at first, they definitely will be right after conferring with Siri.  I guess she must be something like the ultimate grownup.  Anyway, when it comes right down to it, I don't really care WHY I think I am always right, as long as I am actually always right, right?  Right! I'm pretty sure I'm right about this.

Dear Grandpa Kevin,

Grownups do not always think they are right...well, most Grownups anyway. But unlike young children, Grownups fear that not appearing to be right will threaten and challenge their authority, and therefore Grownups who must maintain control in their lives - those who feed upon order - insist upon being right to mask their own insecurities. This may be a conscious thing - or often - may be unconscious.

I realize this is a deep and disturbing thought, but the point I'm trying to get across is that Grownups are always right, even when they are unconscious.
